Top security technology from EVVA for B. Braun Melsungen AG.
Companies operating in the medicine and pharmaceutical sector have all-round security needs. A dedicated access control system without additional application capability soon reaches its limits here. B. Braun was looking for a partner who could look beyond security technology and who was able to offer a more comprehensive solution. EVVA is the partner, SALTO the solution.
High security standards
B. Braun Melsungen AG is an international pharmaceutical and medicine company and the largest supplier of medical device products in Europe (e.g. for anaesthesia, intensive care, cardiology and surgery).
Understandable then that B. Braun also attaches great importance to security within the group. And must attach importance. Because, particularly in this highly specialised industry, stringent security regulations apply; Access control systems for pharmaceutical operations must meet high-level, precisely defined standards. B. Braun takes no risks here at all and places its confidence in one of the leading manufacturers of security technology in Europe, EVVA.
Intricate wiring is history with the virtual network from SALTO
EVVA equipped the properties of B. Braun in Switzerland with the particularly popular electronic SALTO system. "Mifare" is used as the identification technology and allows non-contact identification. The benefit: Without additional procedures, such as turning or pushing, the fitting is 'woken up' through merely approaching the identification medium. Identification and opening occur instantaneously. Sibersa AG, a long-standing and experienced EVVA partner in Switzerland, integrated the SALTO fittings for approx. 250 doors and the online wall readers.
Data exchange, and hence authorisation management, is running particularly effectively. Whilst, until now, locking authorisation could only be carried out quickly and without complicated door programming in the case of wired online access control solutions, SALTO now also makes this without wiring. Data exchange is performed by the IDs used by the users, in the form of cards at B. Braun. iButtons, wristbands, watches and keyrings can also be used as ID carriers if so required. Authorisation information, such as access profile, battery status and access events, are transferred from the online wall readers to the non-wired fittings using these IDs. This method is also used to block lost IDs. The wire is thus replaced by the virtual network of IDs in use.
Ease the burden on administration & save costs
This unique, patented data exchange process saves valuable personnel resources in day-to-day operations and optimises maintenance work since manual information update is no longer necessary. The management also takes place centrally and simply for non-wired door units in the same way. Authorisations for the approx. 700 employees, for guests, for cleaning personnel, etc. can quickly be assigned and changed again. SALTO therefore provides an easing of the burden on organisation, highest operating comfort and optimum security of investment.
Access control and much more:
- But SALTO is not just used for access control. Other applications can be integrated into the system, such as (at B. Braun) time recording, food vending machines, cash boxes and copiers. The user can simply and conveniently use all applications/services with just a single card.
- For sensitive areas at B. Braun, the so-called "ultra clean zones", increased security requirements apply. Additional code keypads have been installed here to prompt for a user PIN code in addition to the card.
- All personnel data was imported into the system via the SALTO software. This eliminates the need for duplicate entry. The embedded MS-SQL database and the HR import function (from SAP) make it possible.
Integrative total solutions are the hallmark of EVVA, not isolated applications. And a high level of customer satisfaction as a consequence. B. Braun and countless companies in the medical, pharmaceutical and many other sectors have already convinced themselves of that.
